This museum is located in the Gyeongbokgung Palace ground. Let’s go to the palace, first! Here’s the information about How to Get to the Gyeongbokgung Palace by Subway.
2. Getting There from Gyeongbokgung Palace
Did you have a good time in the palace? If you are still in the palace area, look around. You can see a temple-like building like this picture below. That’s the museum.
There are two ways :
- From the ticket office of the Gyeongbokgung Palace
- From the inside of the palace
Route A. From the Ticket Office of Gyeongbokgung Palace
Now, we are in front of the Heungnyemun Gate(middle gate, admission) of the Gyeongbokgung Palace. From here(Google Maps), it takes just 5 min to get there by walking.
Can you see a small gate next to the ticket office?
That is called Hyeopsaengmun(협생문/協生門) Gate, that was used only for the Crown Prince. We will go out through the gate just like a royal prince. hahaha!
After passing the gate, you can see the temple-like building on your left side. That is the museum we are going to, the National Folk Museum of Korea.
Go straight to the outside of the palace! We need to walk around the outside of the palace wall.
Passing by the car park.
Go out, then turn left. Here is the starting point of the Samcheong-ro Road (known as Samcheongdong-gil Street), the way to Samcheong-dong(삼청동/三清洞) Neighborhood. We need to walk along this street! (See in the Google Maps)
Go straight up! Go,Go,Go!!!
Look at the buildings on the opposite side! A lot of art galleries are there. That’s why this street is often called ‘Samcheong-dong Art Gallery Street’.
Keep going! We can see one of the famous museums on your right, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (MMCA Seoul/국립현대미술관 서울관/国立现代美术馆 首尔馆). That’s very nice!
Finally, we are arrived! The folk museum is on your left.
Route B. From the Inside of the Gyeongbokgung Palace
(coming soon)
Have fun!
